This Privacy Policy explains how the ShutterTools app for Android, iOS and macOS ("ShutterTools", "the app", "we", "us") handles information. The app is developed and published by Frantisek Novotny, who is the data controller for the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In short: ShutterTools has no user accounts and never sends your location or the places you save to us. To find places by name and to show the name of a location, the app sends the search text or the coordinates to your operating system's map service: Apple's on iOS and macOS, Google's on Android. On Android and iOS, the app also sends anonymous usage statistics to Google Firebase Analytics and, if the app crashes, a crash report to Google Firebase Crashlytics. The Mac app does neither. Everything else works offline.

1. Information processed only on your device

The following information is used by the app and stored only on your device. We never receive it. Apart from the place lookups described in section 2, it is not sent to any server.

The app works fully without location access; you can pick or enter a place manually instead.

If you have enabled device backups (Google backup on Android, iCloud backup on iOS, Time Machine on macOS), your operating system may include the app's on-device settings and saved places in that backup. Cloud backups are handled by Google or Apple under your account and their privacy terms, and Time Machine backups stay on the backup disk you choose; we have no access to them.

2. Place search and place names

To find places by name and to show a readable name for a location, the app uses the map service built into your operating system: Apple's on iOS and macOS, and Google's on Android.

The app sends nothing else with these requests, and we never receive them. Your operating system makes the requests, and Apple or Google handles them under their own privacy terms:

Without an internet connection, place search doesn't work and names are looked up later. All calculations work without these lookups.
